If petechiae were the result of a viral or bacterial infection, the clusters of tiny red spots should go away when the infection is treated. Treating petechiae depends on the cause, and as conditions causing bleeding under the skin can be serious, it is usually best to see your doctor for a proper diagnosis. Petechiae can also be a result of taking certain medications or a symptom of the following infectious diseases: 1
Petechiae could be caused by prolonged straining during activities such as coughing, vomiting, giving birth and weightlifting. But you may also find petechiae on legs, arms or on your eyelids. These tiny red spots can appear on the face, neck and chest. They usually appear in clusters and they are flat. Petechiae (tiny red spots on skin)ĭoctors from the Mayo Clinic say that petechiae are tiny red pinpoint dots that appear on the skin when capillaries under the skin break and bleed. Let’s look in more detail at what could be causing red spots on your skin.
Depending on the cause, the small flat or raised red spots may or may not be itchy. The doctor did put my mind at ease so if it helps you give the doctors a call they might be able to check a photo if you send it to the surgery to save you from going there.Red spots on your skin can appear as individual tiny red dots that look like pinpoints or are grouped together to form a red rash. I am very pale naturally, which also makes them more noticeable. They are almost sitting at the top layer of skin. My arms are my biggest affected area there must be hundreds. My sister has them also but in much much smaller quantities. I most likely had them before this but possibly didn’t notice. I have not had a baby, and had them for (what I have noticed) 10 years and I am now 30. I had bloods done 2 years ago when I was showing the same style spots then and they came back clear. I have tried not to keep looking as it isn’t helping me! I have a photograph but I don’t think I can send it on the reply. I realise the doctor has previously confirmed these as a small version of cherry angioma but in isolation But as you said I can’t tell if I am just focusing more. I am glad I have found this forum there are others that have this same skin complaint. They have (touch wood) stayed as they came up.
